Flavors in this jalapeño mezcal margarita

This margarita is one of my favorite cocktails ever! I love a good spicy & sweet combination and this one hits all the right spots.

The mezcal adds a nice depth of flavor and smokiness to this cocktail while the lime juice adds punchy sourness that pairs perfectly with the sweetness from the honey. The slightly spicy lingering flavor from the jalapenos makes you want to take another sip and the salt perfectly brings everything together.

I like to call this the 5 S cocktail because of all the flavor spots it hits! Spicy, salty, sour, sweet and smoky! 🥰

Jalapeno Mezcal Margarita

Mezcal or tequila

I love the smoky depth of flavor that mezcal adds to this cocktail. It also pairs really well with the sweet and sour flavors in this recipe.

If you’re not familiar with mezcal, it is an agave-based liquor from Mexico, like tequila. Mezcal gets its smoky flavor from the earthen pits that the agave is cooked in lined with lava rocks, wood and charcoal before being distilled in clay pots.

If you don’t have mezcal, you can also definitely make this with Tequila. Just replace mezcal with the same amount of your favorite tequila in this recipe.

If you don’t drink alcohol, you can definitely make this recipe without the alcohol and it will still be just as delicious!

Jalapeno Mezcal Margarita

Chili lime salt rim

I love serving this jalapeño mezcal margarita in glasses with a chili lime salt rim. The chili lime seasoning adds an extra hit of flavor with each mouthful, adding to the umami experience. This is my favorite type of chili lime seasoning to use in this recipe.

If you can’t find this seasoning, you could also use a mix of coarse salt and mild chili powder for the rim.

Ingredients
 
 

For the margarita

  • 1 large jalapeño
  • 1 tablespoon honey or agave nectar (adjust as per your taste)
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups ice
  • 1/4 cup mezcal or tequila
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup lime juice

For the chili lime salt rim

  • 1 tablespoon chili lime seasoning
  • 1 wedge lime

Instructions
 

For the chili lime salt rim

  • Run a wedge of lime around the rim of each glass. Spread the chili lime seasoning on a plate and invert each glass onto the plate so the rim gets coated with the chili lime seasoning.
    Jalapeno Mezcal Margarita

For the margarita

  • Remove most of the seeds and membrane of the jalapeno and add it into a cocktail shaker along with the honey. Muddle it using a muddler or pestle until it breaks down.
    Jalapeno Mezcal Margarita
  • Now fill the shaker with ice and add in the salt, mezcal/tequila, orange juice and lime juice. Close the shaker tightly and shake vigorously for about 30 seconds.
    Jalapeno Mezcal Margarita
  • Pour the margarita into the prepared glasses filled with more ice and serve. Garnish with lime slices and/or jalapeno slices if desired.

Notes

If you don’t have mezcal, you can also definitely make this with Tequila. Just replace mezcal with the same amount of your favorite tequila in this recipe.

Vegan moong dal payasam aka Mangalorean 'Vorn'! H Vegan moong dal payasam aka Mangalorean 'Vorn'!

Happy Sankranti, Uttarayan, Lohri, Pongal and Bihu to everyone celebrating!

This moong dal payasam is one of my all time favorite desserts and is often made for festive occasions in my family. It's called 'Vorn' in Konkani (the language I grew up speaking!). A warm bowl of this payasam brings back such fond memories of my childhood and all the fun I had with my very large family, when we got together for special occasions.

This dessert is vegan and gets its amazing texture and creaminess from coconut milk! This recipe is also gluten free and refined sugar free. I used jaggery (unrefined sweetener from sugar cane), so it adds a deep and rich molasses like flavor along with cardamom for its floral aroma. To add textural contrast, I add chewy tapioca pearls (sabudana) and crunchy fried cashews, coconut slices and raisins.. the perfect pop of texture with every mouthful.

Traditionally, this payasam is made by slowly cooking the lentils in simmering coconut milk until it turns soft and creamy Although, I love the traditional version, I don’t always have the time to slowly cook the lentils, which led me to develop an easy, hands off recipe that takes very little time to make and doesn’t require much stirring! It comes together super quickly too.

This is the absolute best recipe of homemade hot chocolate.. It’s a little spicy from the chili, beautifully fragrant from the lime and so rich and decadent from the chocolate. The booze adds a little kick in the background and makes it even better! It's absolutely perfect for this time of year, you will love this recipe ❤

If you don't like chili/lime, you can leave them out and it will still be delicious. I’ve also included instructions on the blog to make it without the alcohol (link in bio) and I'll upload a reel on how to make it shortly!

Hey guys! I have the perfect holiday appetizer for you.. These Korean inspired chicken wings are crispy, garlicky, spicy, sticky and totally irresistible! The wings are air fried/baked until super crispy and the tossed in the most incredible gochujang sauce. They are so so good, super easy to make for a large crowd and highly addictive!

It's the most wonderful time of the year ❤ perfect time to indulge in delicious sweet treats like this super easy recipe for delicious & creamy chocolate pudding from scratch in under 10 minutes! 
I added a little coffee liqueur for a subtle boozy coffee flavor and to make it extra special for the holidays! It was sooo good, definitely the best pudding I have ever had 🤗
